'Dragonfly Summer' original art pendant by Terry Scopes |
It is truly a dragonfly summer here in Utah.
I have reports from reliable sources in Peoa in northern Utah and Saint George in southern Utah that magnificent dragonflies… in colors of shimmering emerald greens and deep blues to vibrant oranges and gold’s, abound.
I love dragonflies as do many of my customers. They are one of the most requested of my wearable art pendants. So…I thought it would be interesting to share some dragonfly lore with all of you.
In Japan the dragonfly is a symbol of summer and autumn and the Samurai use it as a symbol of power, agility and victory.
In China, people associate the dragonfly with prosperity, harmony and consider it a good luck charm.
Native Americans, consider the dragonfly a sign of happiness, speed and purity…purity because they say the dragonfly eats from the wind.

In Ireland dragonflies were said to be the steeds of the fairies
and their magical gift is the ability
to travel between dimensions; and if you followed a dragonfly, it would surely lead you to a magnificent fairy village.
In many cultures dragonfly’s medicine is to teach us that things are not always as they seem, and that life itself is not always what it appears to be; they are believed to carry messages that call our deeper thoughts to the surface of our consciousness so that we can see & feel them clearly.
For me the most important lesson the dragonfly teaches is - to stay present in our daily lives - enjoy all the little things that occur throughout our day - as the Dragonfly lives a short life;
it must live to the fullest with what it has…now.
