Hello All!
I am writing this letter for two beautiful reasons: The Johnson Family & Jake Jamieson- 9 years old.
The Johnson Family-Below please find a letter from our dear friend, and Lannie’s business partner, Craig ‘Creek’ Johnson, regarding his family’s battle with leukemia. Craig has made a commitment to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise funds in the battle against blood disorders and Lannie and I have committed to supporting him 110%; Lannie’s support, the donation of concerts, and mine, writing to all of you, asking for your contributions. No pressure…but I did brag about all of you to Craig…I assured him you all were the most big-hearted, generous people in the universe! Craig does a most eloquent job of telling his family’s story…so I’ll leave you in his hands and heart.
Jake Jamieson-What a great name…and this kid fits his name perfectly! Craig invited us to the opening dinner for this fund raiser… and before the presentation started a beautiful family of three was seated right behind us… parents and their young son, who was sporting a very cool knit cap. Little did I know I was about to meet a most courageous young man. Jake is 9 years old and was first diagnosed at 5. His mother told us the family thought the leukemia was in remission…but had recently discovered it was back…and Jake will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant this upcoming May, 2012. She described how important the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was to her family - medically, financially, and emotionally. Jake stood at her side grinning from ear to ear…a beacon of encouragement to his mother. Oh…did I mention that Jake had just come directly from radiation treatment at the hospital to the fund raiser? Talk about true grit! Jake gave each of the Fund Raisers a poem that is dear to him…hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

some come from ahead and some come from behind.
but I’ve brought a big bat. I’m all ready you see.
now my troubles are going to have trouble with me!’ –Dr. Seuss

An invitation to my neighbors and friends:
On March 9, 1991 my wife Rebecca passed away of complications from leukemia, at the age of 39. Our six children ranged in age from 5 to 15 at the time. While we continue to feel the influence of her life, twenty-one years later we still feel the effects of her passing.
Sadly, just one day after her death, a new treatment was approved by the FDA which could possibly have saved her life. With today’s advances in leukemia treatment, the chances of her survival would have soared. It is for this reason that when the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society approached me to help raise funds in the battle against blood disorders, I accepted the challenge. For the next ten weeks through May 3, 2012 , I’m committed to raising all the donations I can, with the hope that other families will have a different story to share.
I’m asking that you join me in this most worthwhile cause by contributing to the Leukemia and LymphomaSociety during this drive. The easiest way is by going to a website set up for me for this drive:
While huge advances have been made in the treatment and prevention of blood cancers, there is still much to be done. We are on the brink of such breakthroughs as vaccines for lymphoma, targeted cell treatments, and genetic modification of cancer cells themselves. In addition to research funding, the Society provides financial aid, personal support, and advocacy for those currently affected and their families. The quality of life for survivors has been enhanced. Our research has helped the battle against all other kinds of cancers as well, including breast cancer. Much has been accomplished, but we need to do more.
Please join me today in making a difference.
Now I know that Leukemia research is not the only worthy cause which you can monetarily support. So while I hope that you will make a generous donation because it’s a good thing to do, I would like to offer something in return for your kindness.
